Relatives and friends join with the bride and groom to make the wedding a special celebration. There are so many things to attend to in the exceitement of planning the wedding that the bride will often ask for some help from friends and family to help her with the details of receptions, flowers, outfits and vehicles. You are sure to get people who are happy to help you.

The wedding attendants, including the best man and the matron of honor, have several duties to attend to as part of their duties. It is their job to make sure the bride and groom have all the arrangements made and to help them in this. They also help the bride and groom get ready on the wedding day, and help the day run smoothly.

In early European times, aristocrats and wealthy people would give sweets on celebration days such as christenings and weddings; this was the beginning of the tradition of giving wedding favors to guests and attendants. These were called bomboniere, which literally means a small box of sweets. The early bomboniere boxes were designed using gold, crystal and gems and jewels. This type of gift could only be afforded by the wealthy people of the day as sugar was still an expensive luxury.

During the 13th century, the tradition of giving sugar-coated almonds developed as sugar became more affordable. The traditional number of almonds was symbolic; there were five, standing for health, happiness, fertility, wealth and longevity. The symbolism of the sweet coating and the bitter almond was intended to mirror the bitter-sweet personality of marriage.

Over time, the tradition became that these little gifts of almonds were presented to the wedding guests, at the same time as guests started giving the bride and groom more elaborate wedding presents. During the past wedding brides walked long ranges just to obtain wedding invitations. This bomboniere tradition still exists, but may be known as wedding favors or guests gifts. Many European cultures retain the tradition of giving bomboniere of five almonds which may be presented in little lace or net bags, or tiny boxes, decorated with ribbons.

Guest gifts are becoming more elaborate these days; more practical than the five almonds. The most popular items include scented candles, small picture frames with a photo of the bride and groom, champagne glasses and pens. An early bridesmaid has got to be very good person to request help with bachelorette party favors or bridal shower ideas. Adding the names of the happy couple and the date of their wedding makes the gift more personal. The gifts are intended as a reminder of the wedding, as well as a way of saying thank you for being part of the wedding celebrations.

You can find many different ideas for your wedding favors that don’t necessarily have to be expensive. You will find a wide range of wedding favors, in various price ranges, when you do an internet search. The websites will give you some creative ideas, whether you buy from the online shops or not.

Some brides like to add a personal touch by making their own wedding favors. You can get little colored boxes at many stationary supply stores. You can decorate the outside of the box with a symbol of your wedding and put some chocolates inside. You finish the gift by tying with colored ribbons that match your theme, attach a gift card with the guest name and you have a beautiful wedding favor that is certain to be appreciated. If you are clever in the kitchen, you could even hand make the chocolates.
