Living in Portland’s Downtown Has Wonderful Perks
Downtown city life might not be for everyone, but for those who are drawn to live in the city, downtown Portland real estate provides some nice advantages.
One of the best advantages to living in Portland’s downtown is the great transportation options for getting around to and from the Portland downtown area and within it. For most of the residents here in Portland, walking, biking, and public transit are the preferred mode of transportation. Of course, there’s no need for a car or bikes if you use Portland’s TriMet. But Portland is very much a flexible kind of city and functions well with all modes of transportation.
Walking regularly is one way to get healthy, and Portland is certainly pedestrian-friendly. In fact, Portland’s city blocks were constructed smaller than those in other cities (200 feet instead of a typical 300 to 800 feet), making it a short stroll to Portland’s many corner restaurants and shops. If your job is downtown, you may actually be able to sell your car for good.
Portland’s downtown has some very nice residential areas where you can purchase a Portland converted loft and live in the inner core of the city in style. Depending upon where your workplace is, you may actually end up living within easy walking distance of your job.
There are some very attractive neighborhoods to look into if you want to live in a converted loft in Portland, but probably the most popular is The Pearl District. Popular due in part to the abundance of places to shop and easy transportation, The Pearl District is also where many classy art galleries and upscale businesses are located.
