Fido Wants A Holiday Collar Too

You’re all decked out in your holiday finest, so why shouldn’t Fido be adorned in a fancy holiday dog collar and leash? There are so many fun designs and styles of seasonal dog collars that you will certainly be able to find one that suits your pet.

If you’re going to buy a collar that your dog will only wear for a few months out of the year, you’ll want to know that it will last for many holiday seasons. There are a few things that you should know in order to make a good purchase and to keep it in good shape for years to come.

Good Materials = Years of Use

Choose a holiday dog collar or festive holiday martingale made of good quality materials. Nylon webbing should be soft and supple without pulls or other blemishes. Reject any collar with loose or frayed edges. Look for color fast materials to avoid getting stains from that fancy red collar on Fido’s neck. Insist on rust-free clips and buckles to give that seasonal dog collar a longer life.

When you find the right collar, make sure it fits. You should be able to put two fingers between the fastened collar and your dog’s neck. Beware of collars that barely fit when you purchase them. Any collar that must be adjusted it to its largest or smallest setting doesn’t leave room for weight gain or loss.

Some collars are guaranteed free of defects in workmanship and materials. Buy your dog collar from a company that offers that sort of guarantee.

Wash and Store for Next Holiday Season

Take good care of your plaid holiday dog collar to make it last. Clean it with warm (not hot) water and a bit of mild detergent. Lay the collar flat until it dries. Pack a clean collar away at the end of the holiday season so it will be ready to wear when you get it out the following year… and the year after that, and the year after that!
