Remodeling your house is a viable alternativeto purchasing a new home and then packing up your stuff. However, remodeling is not always cheaper; simple organization mistakes or a bad contractor can lead to disastrous financial and emotional results. Proper organization and in-depth research are your best weapons to avoid the common pitfalls of a typical home remodel. Be sure to use them!

Your garage, your bathroom, your kitchen are good places to start your home remodeling endeavor.  However, before you begin construction, you must ask yourself quite a few questions. The most important question pertains to money: how much can you really afford to spend? When considering a remodel, you should be financially realistic. Unless you take great care when accepting bids from contractors, your total cost will most likely run 20% to 30% higher than expected. While you have countless possibilities for your home remodel, this article will discuss only three different rooms: the kitchen, the bathroom, and the garage.

There are countless possibilities for your home remodel, this article is going to focus on the remodeling of the most important rooms: your bathroom, kitchen and your garage. For most people, the bathroom is their own private sanctuary. Where else can you escape from the world and stand under a hot shower or relax in a soothing bubble bath? When planning your bathroom remodel, you need to consider where you naturally spend most of your time: looking in the mirror or soaking up the suds. The answer to that question is where you should focus your design ideas. Did you know there are such things as heated flooring and towel warming racks? And every contractor will recommend that you invest a little extra money and buy top of the line fixtures. By investing more cash on the extra bells and whistles can easily transform your everyday bathroom into an at-home spa.

It has been said that over 50% of home owners do not park their car in their garage. Instead of a place to park a car, their garage has become one big storage unit. Have you become one of those people? If so, you should consider remodeling your garage. A remodeled garage can actually increase your storage space, expand the “usable” square footage of your home, or even allow you to park your car inside it.

Outside of gaining extra storage space, a garage can be transformed into an elaborate work room, a laundry room, a home gym, or even into extra living space such as a spare bedroom or play room for the kids. If you want to transform your garage into extra living space, you need to factor in the additional construction costs for heating, cooling, and electrical. And if you would like to add a bathroom or some other form of water supply, you will need to factor in plumbing costs which can be quite expensive.

A kitchen remodel is the most complicated (and usually the most costly) home remodel project you can begin. It is a huge undertaking; don’t take it lightly. It is highly advisable to hire a qualified contractor than to try and tackle your own kitchen remodel. If you request bids from several contractors – which would be a good idea, your scope of work should be extremely specific regarding the many materials that are to be used for the project (detailed proposals allow you to accurately compare estimates). Not too mention, if you aren’t specific in regards to materials, there is a strong chance you will get materials either inferior or too expensive than what you wanted in the first place.

Designing your future kitchen is the most important phase of your kitchen remodel. Every aspect of your design should meet with your approval before you begin construction. You really must consider the down time you will experience; how long can you handle not having a kitchen? The more in-depth your remodel, the longer you can expect to be without a working kitchen.

Create the perfect decor after your remodel is done with kitchen window treatments. Find great looking kitchen window treatment sets for all the windows. Easy kitchen window treatments  to create the perfect kitchen.

Outside of hiring an experienced, licensed contractor for your project, it is probably a good idea to hire an independent consultant that can oversee your contractor’s quality of work and overall job progress. Most people couldn’t tell the difference between ductile iron piping and black steel piping, but an independent consultant certainly can. He or she can spot any shortcuts that your contractor or subcontractors may attempt to take.

Your family’s happiness and livelihood are closely tied to your home. Take care in your overall preparation for and planning for your project and your remodeling experience will most likely be a successful one.
